Betty J. Boden 1924 ~ 2018

Betty June Boden was born on April 19, 1924 in Attica, Kansas, daughter of Curtis D. and Geneva June (Wagner) Ball.  She had three sisters and a brother.
Betty attended grade school at a country school named Star Valley.  She went on to attend junior high in Attica and graduated high school in 1942 with the largest class to graduate from Attica High School, a Class of “42”.
The summer after she graduated, Betty worked in Wichita at the Bemis Bag Company.  On November 21, 1942, she married Dale Boden.  Dale joined the U.S. Navy in 1943.  They spent 8 months in Couer d Aline, Idaho while he attended Radio School.  He was then out to sea for 19 months during World War II as Betty lived with her parents and his parents.  During that time, she worked at the Sharon Telephone Company for several months.  Dale came home in December of 1945, in time for Christmas.
Betty and Dale were blessed with two sons.  Mike was born in September of 1946 and Barry in December of 1951.  Later the family grew as her sons gave her four grandchildren, who went on to give her seven great-grandchildren.
The family lived in Wichita for 13 years.  Betty was the “AVON Lady” of their neighborhood and Dale worked at Boeing.  They moved to Attica in 1963 and opened the Phillips 66 Station.  Betty was the bookkeeper for the station and later for their son, Barry’s auto service business.
Betty enjoyed watching KU basketball, playing bingo, and going to the Attica Senior Center.  She also enjoyed visits and talking on the phone.
Dale passed away on October 6, 2004.  Barry passed away June 15, 2012.  And her grandson, Darren passed away January 27, 2015.  On March 25, 2018, Betty passed away in Attica at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 6 days.  Also preceding her in death are her parents; her brother, Jack Ball; and sisters: Dorothy Newberry, Mary Ann Headberg, and Bobbie Jean Gerberding.
Left to cherish the memories of Betty are her son Michael Boden and his wife, Donna; grandchildren: Marci Writer and her husband, Derek, Dana Ingle and her husband, Casey, and Monica Fly; granddaughter-in-law, Karen Boden; great-grandchildren: Nicklaus and Lola Ingle, Heather, Kelsey, Ryleigh, Kyra, and Krew; step great-grandchildren, Mya and Drew Writer; brother-in-law, Jack Boden; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Graveside Service was 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Attica Cemetery with Pastor Jeffery Jones officiating.  Recorded songs played were “Together Again” by Emmylou Harris and “Amazing Grace” by Leon Ballenger.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Attica Senior Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
