Roger G. Lear 1945~ 2018

Roger G. Lear, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, March 12, 2018 at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 10, 1945 in Anthony, Kansas, he was the son of Ernest and Florence (Whitaker) Lear.  He was raised and received his education in Anthony and Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School.  He joined the United States Army on May 12, 1968 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on August 30, 1969.

He was united in marriage to Deann Hendrickson on March 2, 1970 in Miami, Oklahoma.  The couple made their home in Winfield.  Roger worked at Rodeo Meat Packing Plant in Arkansas City for 17 years.  He then went to work for the Kansas Highway Department as a road grater and later worked in maintenance at the Kansas State Hospital and Training Center and the Kansas Veterans Home. He was a member of the American Legion Post #10 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544.

His family includes:
His wife:  Deann Lear of Winfield;
His daughters:  Gretchen Lear of Augusta; Audra Hittle and husband, Kane of Heath, TX;
His granddaughters:  Lydia and Caroline Hittle of Heath, TX; and
His nieces and nephews:  Sandy Lee, Steve Robertson, Stephen Hendrickson and Angie Perkins.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his son, Marlon Elliot Lear and sister, Carolyn Robertson. 

Graveside memorial services will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.  Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established in Roger’s name for the VFW Post #3544 and the American Legion Post #10.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
